Ikebana is the art of displaying flowers following certain rules.It began with Buddistmonks whoused flowers
to decorate altars.This skill made into an art by Ikenobo in the fifiteenth century

[Kabuki]


Kabuki probably came from noh.It reatched its present form in the Edo period.Kabuki is a combination of song
and dance and stylized acting.The stage is elaborate and the costumed are colorful.

[Noh]


Noh is a dance and drama that started in the fourteenth century.It is based on folk myths and religion.
The movements in a Noh drama are stylized and controlled.The main actor usually wears a mask called a Nohmen.
Kyo-gen is a traditional short comedy drama personal during the breaks between Noh plays.

[Haiku]


Haiku is a three-line poem.with seventeen syllables in the pattern of 5-7-5.Including a seasonal word is
an important aspect of this poem.Some of the most famous Haiku poems were written by Matsuo Basho
in the seventeenth century.

[Tanka ]


Tanka is a slightly longer poem similar to Haiku.It has five lines with thirty-one syllables in the pattern of
5-7-5-7-7.The traditional form of poetry originated in the seventh century.

[Rakugo ]


originated in the eighteen century as a form of entertaiment among the common peaple.
A storyteller sits on the stage and tells jokes and funny stories.
The stories usually have a witty ending.

[Ukiyoe]


Ukiyoe are woodblock prints from the eighteenth century.They were very popular with the general population.
Artists used rich colors to paint beautiful women,Kabuki actors and landscapes.
Ukiyoe had an influence on Vincent van Gogh and other Western painters.
